Product: pavilion p7-1226s
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Recently purchased HP Radeon R7 450 4GB  GDDR5 PCI Express as upgrade to my p7-1226s desktop.  No video after installation.  Is this proper unit for my PC?

The CPU is an I3, and the best upgrade is still only the i7-2600.  That is very old by today's standards.  WIN 7 only has support until Jan 2020, and then it ceases. Combining these factors presents a choice.  Spend a few hundred to survive for only 15 monthes, or start looking. Whatever you chose still means in becomes obsolete in a few years.  It is a vicious circle.

My desktop has an I7 4790 4Core 4Ghz, and is obsolete compared to the i7-8700 4Core 3.7Ghz.

This system is feedback driven thru Solution and Kudo flags. It's the only means of knowing if you have been served. Please click Accept as Solution, if your problem is solved. To say THANK YOU, press the "thumbs up symbol" to render a KUDO. You can render both Solution and KUDO..

Your computer is circa Jan 2012, with WIN 7 and BIOS boot environment. It predates the release of the UEFI in the fall of 2016.  It is not upgradeable to the newer UEFIvBIOS boot environment.  The r7 450 is a circa June 2016 and utilizes the newer UEFIvBIOS, so that is your situation.

What was your real goal ?  A specific game ?

Not sure where you wanted to be in the ability range (graphically), but the stock I3 CPU chip is another issue. You really need to clarify your intent. You have just learned a harsh lesson, as likely the seller of that card will "ding" you $50 to return it. The only card I would recommend would be the GTX 660, but finding that on the used market is difficult. You would still need a PSU upgrade. The Corsair CX550 isw an exact fit.  The CX 650 is almost an inch longer.

Again, it's the CPU bottleneck that will drive down the performance even IF you installed a graphic card.

Okay....... So, thank you Sir, for the info.   Can you recommend an upgrade for my PC?  Or, would you suggest I just buy a new PC.
