Product: HP Pavilion p7-1227c
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought this Radeon R9 380 4GB from Ebay and installed it in my computer but it won't work. The graphics card's fans turn but the PC's screen stays black. I contacted the seller who said that the video card was tested before sending and that it may be a compatibility issue with my PC. I know that this graphics card has a PCI Express 3.0 x 16 interface while my PC has a PCI Express 2.0 but I don't think that could be an issue.

Do you know if there's a compatibility issue between the graphics card XFX Radeon R9 380 4GB GDDR5 and the  HP Pavilion p7-127c?

Note: I did upgrade the power supply to 650W.

@Astyx, welcome to the forum.

 

You are correct that the PCIe 3.0 is backward compatible to PCIe 2.0.  However, your problem is the motherboard.  The Radeon card requires UEFI in the motherboard instead of a Legacy BIOS. The BIOS can't be upraded to UEFI.  The PCIe 3.0 cards that require UEFI will not work in any other slot.  HP didn't begin using UEFI until mid-October, 2012.  The last cards to operate without UEFI are the GTX 660/670's.

Would you please suggest some compatible motherboards that I can use with my current CPU? Or do you think that changing only the motherboard will be a bad idea in term of performance?

You are very welcome, @Astyx.

 

HP has their motherboards made to their specs.  Therefore, they are not necessarily the same as retail boards.  This makes it difficult to find a board that has holes that will match the stand-offs in the case.  Also, some of the connectors, such as, the On/Off button may not be compatible.  If you decide to go with a new board, I suggest that you contact the manufacturer's Tech Support for help with assuring it will work in your case.

I would add that changing out the motherboard creates a NEW computer.

It would invalidate the OEM WIN 10 license.
