I have attempted to upgrade from the 3GB NVIDA Gforce GT440 graphics card to the Geforce GTX 1060 Card.  I first tried a Gigabite branded card and then am trying an EVGA brand card.  The mother board beeps on start up not recognizing the card.  It may be a leap but I am assumming I do not have two bad cards.  I physically reinstalled the cards a few times, made certain that the power supply (500W) is adequate and connected but the motherboard just gives me a series of beeps and will not accept the card.  The GT440 works when reinstalled.

@J_Lighthearted, welcome back to the forum.

The problem that you are experiencing is caused because the video card is not compatible with the motherboard.  The GTX 1050 requires UEFI in the motherboard instead of a Legacy/standard BIOS.  HP didn't begin using UEFI until mid-October, 2012.  The BIOS can't be upgraded to UEFI.  The last cards that would work without UEFI are the GTX 660/670 series.  This is why the GT 440 works in the motherboard.

Thank you very much.  I was having difficultiy finding any helpful explanation.  Your answer is concise and simple.  I do wish the manufacturers would list system requirements but I have not found this to be the case.  Very helpful.

You are very welcome, @J_Lighthearted!

I am always glad to help.  HP has begun to add much more valuable information on their new computers, but in the past not as many people were doing upgrades.
