This is my first post here. I have two issues which are interconnected.
a) I want to spend some money with HP, but find it impossible to break through the barriers that HP raises to establish contact with either an AI or human. Namely the requirement to give a serial number for my product that is recognised by the system.
b) This is not surprising because I want to upgrade a HP computer I just bought, and which is out of warranty.
- the unit in question is a Z440
- the graphics card is a NVIDIA Quadro 2000
- the GPU is Xeon E5-1650 v4
- I am getting regular 928 PCIe Fatal Error shutdowns, which I believe indicates that the problem is with the graphics card
- I have had an easy and quick online chat with customer support at Nvidia, who suggests that a Nvidia RTX 3060 would be compatible and suitable. However he suggests that I check with HP Support, for the simple purpose of finding out whether the physical dimensions of this card are compatible with the Z440 motherboard.
- IMPOSSIBLE to get anywhere near an HP customer support rep.....

Welcome to our HP community forum!
Your HP Z440 Workstation is either fitted with a 525-watt power supply with no PCIe power cables, or a 700-watt power supply which has two 6-pin PCIe power cables labelled G1 and G2. These PCIe power cables can each deliver 12V x 18A = 216-watt of power, and you can therefore use 6-pin to 8-pin PCIe power adapter cables in order to power a high(er) end graphics card like I did with my HP Z440 Workstation upgrade project.
There is plenty of space inside an HP Z440 Workstation, so any RTX 3060 will fit inside your case. If you got the 700-watt power supply, you'll need one 6-pin to 8-pin PCIe power adapter cable, and if you got the 525-watt power supply, you could try a dual SATA 15-pin to 8-pin PCIe power adapter cable to see if that will work to power an RTX 3060. This cable looks like this:
Hope this was helpful.

Thank you so very much! I was wondering whether the graphics card would physically fit in the slot. It would be a shame to spend the money on the card, only to find that I could not insert it. Please forgive the naivete of an old newbie!
