Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi Folks,

I have a question regarding the operating speed of the installed memory-modules, because the board detects "PC3-8500" RAM (see attached photo), whereas the memory itself supports "PC3-10600"-timing. The WIN7-Performance-Index shows, that the memory is the bottle-neck of the whole system with a value of 5,5.

My Equipment:

Board:
H-I41-uATX (Eton)
see https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01903990

CPU :
Intel Q9650 QuadCore@4x3GHz, FSB: 1333 MHz,
see https://ark.intel.com/de/products/35428/Intel-Core2-Quad-Processor-Q9650-12M-Cache-3_00-GHz-1333-MHz...

BIOS-Version:
6.10a Revision: A
see https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04684770

Memory: 2x1GB Micron MT8JTF12864AZ-1G4
see https://www.micron.com/parts/modules/ddr3-sdram/mt8jtf12864az-1g4?pc=%7B515D8A6C-9BD1-4005-92FB-DC61...

Now I assume, the system is running slower than it should be. I also ordered 2x2GB Chips of the same type/manufacturer. Anybody got a clue how to make the bios recognize the exact chip-type?

Thank you in advance! 🙂

Regards
NewOrder

@NewOrder,

In the archives section there are related posts to the RAM issue.

The opinion is that only PC3-8500 runs in that machine, as tests with PC3-10600 fail.

Hello WB2001,

thanks for your fast reply! So the information provided on HPs board-specifications is wrong?

Quote:

  • Supports DDR3 DIMMs only
  • Dual channel memory architecture
  • Two DDR3 DIMM (240-pin) sockets
  • DIMM types:
    • PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333)
    • PC3-8500 (DDR3-1066)
    • PC3-6400 (DDR3-800)
  • Non-ECC memory only, unbuffered
  • Supports 2 GB DDR3 DIMMs
  • Supports up to 4 GB on 64-bit PCs
  • Maximum memory only if using 2GB DDR3 DIMM modules
  note:
32-bit PCs cannot address a full 4.0 GB of memory

I really can't believe that...

Hello again,

here is my next memory-related question:

Today I received the ordered memory (see my first message, picture attached). They are from the same manufacturer, same timing but with the double capacity.

When trying to boot up, the board bleeps two times: one short, one long and keeps repeating that behaviour.

Anybody got a clue?

Thank you in advance for answering! 🙂

Regards
