I’m trying to upgrade my PC to an SSD drive, as it’s a bit dated. I’m studying IT so I need something fast. A similar PC I have been using is now very slow. This PC I want to use I have made dual boot and I’ve installed some programs I need for my studies so I really just want to clone the HDD onto the SSD.
I purchased a dock that will take 2.5” drives and 3.5” drives. But I completely forgot about the lugs on the HDD in my PC, that slide into the bracket. Is there a way to get these lugs off without damaging them? Special screwdriver? Also how do I get the lugs onto my SSD to be able to install it? Do they come on the conversion bracket? This I haven’t got yet as I remembered there possibly being a bracket already in one of my PCs. But I can’t see it on this one.
i mean I guess I could just use a SATA cable to attach it to the PC I’m currently using and clone it that way. But I got the dock so I could do it offline. But now I can’t. Or maybe I could somehow connect the drive to one port of the dock with a SATA cable? Although that probably needs a cable I don’t have (male-female SATA)?
EDIT: I found the place to put a 2.5” drive, right under the 3.5” drive, so I wasn’t imagining it, but again it needs the lugs on it to slide into place. Where can I get them? Image attached.

your system should have a HD 2.5 in mounting tray
HP EliteDesk 800 G1 Hard Drive Caddy - 1B33DNM00-600-G
https://www.ebay.com/itm/234887766482
and this tray will use either the blue or the smaller black mounting grommets
amazon 3.5 to 2.5 adapter that will also fit in external HD docks

Thank you. Those are the grommets I need, but my biggest problem is how to get them out of the HDD to fit it into the dock. Then I could reuse them on the SSD while I try to source some here in NZ. I’m not sure what screwdriver they take, it’s not standard. I do have a little tool kit of weird and wonderful screwdrivers, phone opening kit, so maybe there’s one in there. Also have a couple of drive replacement kits but not for HP, so I have a couple of other proprietary screwdrivers.
Yes I did find a mounting bay for the 2.5” drive, had a feeling it was there from my tear down, but that was some time ago, so I wasn’t sure. Now I have confirmed that and edited my post. But that uses the rail and grommet arrangement too.
Looks like it’s T15, I think I have a Torx screwdriver in my TiVo drive upgrade kit might work. I seem to recall buying another screwdriver kit with propriety screwdrivers for something else I couldn’t open (PS4 maybe?), plus a phone repair kit but I checked yesterday and don’t think has it. Chances are I already have one, if not it seems I can get one from a hardware store here for under NZ$10. And I found the screws, hardest part was getting the name right for my Google search, but your reply helped with that thank you.
