Hello all. I was thinking of picking up 2x HGST 8TB 7.2K RPM 12Gbps SAS 3.5" LFF HDD hard drives for my Z820. However, before I commit I was hoping to get your thoughts on moving forward with the purchase.
My main concern of course was if I was going to run into any compatability issues. There is a slight difference in the part/model number and was wondering what exactly that might represent. The item description reads as follows:
1) HGST HUH728080AL5200 0F23746 8TB 7.2K RPM 12Gbps SAS 3.5" Server Drive
2) HUH728080AL4200 HGST 8TB 12G SAS 7.2K 3.5" LFF HDD HARD DRIVE 0F25738
Thank you in advance for your time, patience, and guidance. Peter

You're welcome.
Those Hitachi drives have the same specs, according to what I found on Amazon.com.
They will throttle down to whatever the max bandwidth is on the controller.

I suggest purchasing two identical 3.5" SAS disks, unless the seller can provide information that states that one is a superseded part number and absolutely otherwise identical.

Thank you so much for your prompt response @Erico. Much appreciated. I have to say that many of the eBay vendors that I have "attempted" to contact are very difficult to work with. Most if not all of the communication gets lost in translation I'm guessing. First off, many of them do not allow for more than one purchase of any given item every 10 days. Which I find to be very odd. I do understand how they might implement such a policy given that their pricing is quite aggressive and how they do this to discourage fire sales so-to-speak. Where any given buyer may want to scoop up their entire inventory. Ultimately, I had no choice but to purchase from two different vendors keeping drive model/specs in mind. I am no expert but I assume that these drives will throttle down to 6Gps when connected to the onboard SAS controller. Fingers crossed.
This is what I ended up with:
1 - HGST HUH728080AL5200 0F23746 8TB 7.2K RPM 12Gbps SAS 3.5" Server Drive
2 - HGST 8TB HDD 7.2k RPM SAS 12Gbps 3.5" F23746 HUH728080AL5200 SUN ORACLE
