HP 19-2113w
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I own a HP 19-2113w All-In-One that I have been in the processing of upgrading.  I replaced the HDD with a SSD with no problem.  I also want to upgrade the memory from the 4 GB that it comes with to 8 GB. Looked up the correct specification for the memory SODIMM, confirming that the spec sheet on the HP site indicated this box will support up to 8 GB.  The OS I am running Windows 10 Pro 64 bit so memory addressing should not be any issue.  I ordered the exact SODIMM as per the HP spec sheet, ordering two (2) 4 GB modules, knowing this box has two memory slots, and both slots should have the same speed, and preferably the same manufacturer.  I swapped out the original SODIMM with one of the new ones, and added the other to empty memory slot.  The box would not power up, power light on-blank screen.  Put the original SODIMM in slot 1, left the other new one is slot 2--same result.  Put one of the new SODIMMs in slot 1 alone--same result.  Put the orginal SODIMM back in slot 1 leaving slot 2 empty, and the box once again booted up.

I have seen other posts where the same problem was reported, but frankly the replies were not useful.  Basically, the replies concluded that both of the replacement SODIMMs were defective.  Clearly that is not true.

My question is, has anyone successfully upgraded this box to 8 GB, and if so what memory was installed, and if what configuration?  Is there anything else you must do beyond putting in the SODIMMS, i.e.,  jumper on the motherboard, etc.?

Thanks.

Ski44, welcome to the forum.

It sounds like the new memory is not compatible for whatever reason.  If one of the modules won't work in Slot 1 something is wrong; timings, etc.  Here is the memory that is recommended by Crucial Memory.  The memory they recommend is guaranteed to work or it will be replaced at no additional charge to you.  Their Tech Support is there to help you, also.  They make very good memory for OEM computers.

Dear Old_Geekster,

Thanks so much for your reply. It was very good to have you confirm my thinking. As it turns out, I order a memory kit from Crucial last evening, and I'll post again after I get it and install it.  I am optimistic it will work as advertised.

Thanks again for your help.

All,

I installed the 8 gb Memory Kit from Crucial by Micron which I ordered three days ago.  I popped out the existing SO-DIMM, inserted the new SO-DIMMs, and everything is working perfectly.  I high recommend that anyone wishing to upgrade their memory on their HP-19-2113w should get it from Crucial by Micron.  It will work, no doubt about it.

Lucky you....I've tried about a dozen (now) sticks of 2gb & 4gb memory two of which matched the samsung memory that hp made the unit with....to no avail.....still a black screen.

I tried pulling the cmos battery hoping it would cause some sort of recounting of the memory, no - go.

Our customer will not be getting his hp aio upgraded here.   It's not normal for the 5 or 6 different memory manufacturers I've tried thus far to not work.

At one point there was a 2gb 12800 that booted the unit, but sent it into a repetitive reboot; all other sticks produced only a black screen...strange.

As for the original poster having a problem with the cover of this unit...it's actually a nicely made cover that fits easily without much effort.   Start at the top, push down and in gently, begin to lower the cover taking note of the top contact making sure a corner doesn't unseat...you'll get the hang of it from there it's just snapping down both sides to the bottom.

Hi there,

I am in the process of upgrading my HP 19 all in one from 4 GB to 8 GB myself, and I think the mistake you made is that you tried to replace the original 4 GB card as well. There is memory on that slot and it should not be replaced unless defect, and if you do, you need another PC to reprogram the necessary data on the original slot before you can add a new one.

I hope this is helpful to you. 🙂

Teresa
