Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP 24-a205na All In One PC that no longer recongnises anything plugged into its 4 USB ports.  If I plug a device into the USB port on the bottom (a keyboard with backlit keys, for instance) the keys will light up, but the keyboard will not repsond.

The problem I have is that, without the USB ports working, I can't diagnose issues or even get into Windows.  The BIOS shows an erros upon every boot - No Keyboard.

I have tried different USB keyboards and devices, I have tried all 4 ports, to no avail.  The 4 ports on the back show no signs of life for any devices.  The single USB port on the underside of the screen lights the keybpard up, but that's it.

Any ideas?

@BrettJamesLive -- did you purchase this computer within the last 12 months? If so, the HP Warranty is valid. Contact HP Support to open a "case" (as HP calls it) against the warranty, to have HP repair/replace your computer, at HP's expense.

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately  not. It’s about 3 years old.

I suspect it’s a board issue but wanted to see if anyone has any idea how I can get a peripheral to work. Bring back PS2! 😂

Me, too.

At this point, I doubt that paying a certified computer technician will be fruitful.

So, all you can do is to physically remove the disk-drive, containing your files, from inside the computer.

Purchase a new computer, and temporarily connect the disk-drive as a "secondary" disk-drive, to copy your Personal Files to the new computer's disk-drive.

Maybe, post to eBay, advertising an "as-is-for-parts" computer, stating that there is no disk-drive, and a suspect motherboard.  Somebody may want some of the components (bezel, screen, CPU, RAM, CD/DVD device, case), and will buy it to cannibalize it.

hi

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-24-a200-all-in-one-desktop-pc-series/14627434/model...

back

  • USB 2.0: 2
  • USB 3.0: 1

bottom

  • USB 3.0-Type A (Charging): 1
  • USB 3.0-Type C: 1

With a bit of luck it might work
unplug all peripherals
Pull out the power plug, stay long press the power button
Only reconnect the electrical outlet, and if you have that try a wired keyboard connected to the usb 2.0 port
Start the computer

It is possible that your system shut down the USB ports when it sensed too large a current drain.  This is usually fixed by a full shutdown and pulling power cable and removing battery. [edit] @Prométhée shows how to shutdown properly

Look with magnifier for damage or any debris in the ports that have no power.  The fact that the bottom port has power but no data indicates a real problem and as @itsmyname mentioned you may want to piece out the parts on eBay.
