I would like to upgrade a HP 285 G3 PC (product code 3ZD61EA).

It came with a AMD Ryzen3 2200G which does not pass the winndows 11 compatibility test.

I have updated the BIOS to "ROM Family SSID 8431 v F.51 Rev.A" to get TPM 2.0 activated.

It's hard to find a reliable list of CPUs that are compatible with the BIOS version AND are listed in Microsoft's AMD-processor list compatible with WIN11 25H2. They require AMD Ryzen Series 3000 or higher.

From what I have researched on the net, it seems that a lot of non Pro AMD Processors are blocked in the HP BIOS and that the HP BIOS only supports Raven Ridge APUs.

Which CPUs are compatible with the BIOS version mentioned above and Win 11  25H2?

Can anyone confirm a CPU upgrade in a HP 285 G3 running stable with win 11 25H2?

You're very welcome.

Only the processors listed in the specs sheet I posted will work.

If you install the AMD Ryzen 3 PRO 3200GE, Ryzen 3 3200G, or Ryzen 5 3400G processor, I 100% guarantee you that you will be throwing €50 to 65 out the window.

If you re-visit the link you posted you will find the two Ryzen Pro processor I posted on that list.

None of the mobile Ryzen series 2000 processors support W11.

The problem is as you may have already discovered, is that the two supported Ryzen Pro processors are pretty expensive and then a cheap graphics card such as the AMD RX550 would still be around  €35 - 50 in used condition.

I have been running W11 25H2 on 10 unsupported PC's since it first came out in 2021--some way older than yours.

I have had no problems doing in-place upgrades to the next W11 builds each time.

As a matter of fact, if you had installed W11 24H2 there was a Microsoft 25H2 enablement package that automatically updated the PC's to 25H2 without any workaround at all.

IMHO, Microsoft will be moving on from W11 shortly and developing W12 and not releasing any more new builds of W11 and if they do, they will probably use the same type of enablement package to upgrade from 25H2 to 26H2 if there is one.

Windows 11 will be supported my Microsoft for another 5 years, with W11 25H2 going out of support in 2027 unless they extend it.

I don't see that you have anything to lose by giving the workaround a try.

I don't know that it is worth it putting some €200 to upgrade the hardware.

You could probably buy an off lease fully supported W11 HP business desktop, for not much more.

Below is the link to the HP Quickspecs for the model series:

HP 285 G3 Microtower PC

Page 5 has the only two supported processors that meet Microsoft's minimum W11 processor requirements:

AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 2600

AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 2700

Both processors do not work with the onboard AMD Vega graphics, so you would have to add a PCIe x16 graphics card.

You can upgrade your PC to W11 for free without upgrading the hardware, but you would have to use a workaround that bypasses the W11 hardware checks so you can do an in-place upgrade from W10 > W11.

If you are interested in doing that, watch this video which is the easiest way to do that, in my opinion:

Thanks for reply!

I am a little sceptic to the workaround method to upgrade to Win11 despite of incompatible CPU.

It might work for now but lead to new problems with the next feature update.

Regarding the two models you picked from the QuickSpeck sheet

AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 2600

AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 2700

On the Microsoft Windows 11 version 25H2 supported AMD processors website only 3000 series and above

Ryzen CPUs are listed. So I am wondering if they are officially supported.

Also I would like to stay with an integrated GPU if possible. The pc is used for office appliances only.

My original question was whether the latest BIOS provides support for later CPU models with integrated GPU and if HP limits the supported CPUs to Pro models only.

These CPUs are available for €50 to 65,-

Ryzen 3 PRO 3200G  (2nd hand)

AMD Ryzen 3 PRO 3200GE (2nd hand)

Ryzen 3 3200G

Ryzen 5 3400G

Anyone who has has successfully upgraded his HP 285 g3 with these models?

Thanks again for your reply!

So I guess I'l give it a shot and try the upgrade with the existing CPU as you suggested.

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance.

I have successfully finished the migration on that hp 285 g3 PC with the method you recommended. No extra hardware was bought and the migration took about 1 hour to finish plus the usual preparation (creating free disk space, full System backup, auditing the powershell update skript etc).

The PC is running quite smoothly with the ryzen 3 2200g CPU and 8GB RAM - way better than expected. Much more important: It is receiving Windows Updates again 👍

Thanks for your support!

You're very welcome.

I'm glad that the PC works fine as is on W11.

I had every confidence that it would.
