Looking for help to fix a new HP 330 Wireless Keyboard which "QWERTY" line does not work.
I recently purchased the new keyboard and mouse, and although the mouse works fine, the entirety of the top line of letters (the "QWERTY" line) does not work (except "Y" and "T").
Steps taken so far:
- Using the HP keyboard diagnostic tool reveals that it is just not registering any input from the keys.
- Opened up the back and there doesn't appear to be anything obviously wrong, or any dust/obstacles blocking input
- Deleted and reinstalled drivers on the laptop - didn't fix
- Tried a different laptop - still not working
Frustratingly, I can't even seem to register the product on my HP account as the serial number is not recognised, and trying to register it through the website where "an email confirming registration will be sent" has not provided an email yet. As I can't register it, I can't get in contact with HP Support about the issue to claim warranty or search for a fix. I also can't return the product to store as the packaging is already thrown out.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi @Kwich,
Welcome to the HP support community.
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your keyboard!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and hopefully resolve this issue:
1. Check for Stuck or Dirty Keys
- Inspect the keyboard for any visible dirt or debris around the affected keys. You can try to gently clean around the keys using compressed air or a soft brush.
- Check for stuck keys: Press the keys firmly a few times to ensure none of them are physically sticking.
2. Uninstall and Reinstall Keyboard Drivers
- In Device Manager, right-click the keyboard driver (listed under Keyboards) and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the keyboard drivers.
- Check if the issue persists after reinstalling.
3. Check for Windows Updates
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates to see if there are any pending updates that may include fixes for keyboard-related issues.
- Install all updates and restart your laptop.
4. Use the On-Screen Keyboard
- Press Windows Key + Ctrl + O to open the On-Screen Keyboard.
5. Perform a System File Check (SFC)
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator by typing cmd in the search box, right-clicking Command Prompt, and selecting Run as Administrator.
- Type the following command sfc /scannow and press Enter:
- Wait for the process to complete. This may take some time.
- Once completed, restart your laptop and check if the issue is resolved.
6. Test in BIOS (Hardware Test)
- Power off your laptop.
- Power it back on and immediately press ESC or F10 (depending on your model) to enter the BIOS menu.
- In the BIOS, test the X key. If it doesn’t work in BIOS, the issue is likely with the physical keyboard itself or the motherboard.
- If the key works in BIOS, the issue is most likely software or driver-related.
7. Perform a System Restore
- Search for Create a restore point in the Windows search bar and open the System Properties.
- Under the System Protection tab, click System Restore and choose a restore point before the issue began.
- Follow the instructions to restore your system, and check if the problem is resolved.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?"—your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster! 👍✨

Hi @Kuroi_Kenshi,
Thanks for the reply, but I had already tried most of the solutions you suggested. The BIOS test I hadn't tried, but that also does not work. I am pretty convinced it is just a hardware failure at this point.
Cheers,
Kwich

Thank you for the response.
Since it looks like a hardware issue, if your HP 330 Keyboard is still under warranty, I’d recommend visiting the nearest HP authorized service center with your invoice. They’ll assist you with further steps, including a possible replacement.
