HP430 wireless keypad

On the HP 430 wireless keypad, I can see how to programme a set of key-presses or keyboard functions, but not characters. I occasionally make notes on Icelandic and other foreign texts, and it would be helpful to have keys for 'æ' (and 'Æ' with [shift]+), 'ð', 'þ' etc.  I tried the lower-case versions as strings of keypresses, using Alt-codes, but it does not like them.

Can I assign characters (using Unicode codes perhaps) to the programmable keys?

@AlexanderHoward, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP 430!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand that you would like to assign Icelandic characters (such as 'æ', 'Æ', 'ð', 'þ') to the programmable keys on your HP 430 Wireless Keypad.

Currently, the HP 430 Wireless Keypad’s programmable keys are designed to store key sequences and keyboard functions but do not natively support direct Unicode character input or Alt-code macros. However, you may consider the following alternative:

Using HP Accessory Center (HAC)

If you haven’t already, please ensure you are using the latest version of the HP Accessory Center software. While it primarily supports key remapping and macros, you might be able to create a macro that types the desired characters.

Steps:

  1. Open HP Accessory Center.
  2. Navigate to the Macro Settings for your keypad.
  3. Record a macro that enters the desired character (e.g., copy and paste 'æ' into the macro).
  4. Assign the macro to a programmable key and save your settings.

I hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

I have managed to get two letters in, using Alt codes.  It is inconsistent though with what works.  I will keep trying.  I could not paste a letter in as the keystroke. Oh well, it looked a good purchase when I got it.
