HP750 160 qe
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello. I have a HP 750 160 qe desktop and the CD/DVD player is no longer working.

When I press the eject button nothing happens.

When I manually eject the tray and put a disc in, nothing happens and the disc does not spin and the computer does not indicate a disc in the drive.

It looks like the device shows up in both the BIOS and Device Manager settings. The device status is indicated as, 'This device is working properly.'

I purchased this computer new in 2015 and in only recently started having these problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello Grzwacz,

Thank you for the reply. I disconnected the small power cord (red/black) and also the large data cord (black) from the back of the CD drive. I used some air duster on all the connection points between the wires and CD drive. I reconnected the wires to the CD drive. I then disconnected the large data cord (black) from the ‘SATA’ connector port in the board. I used some air duster on these connection points as well. I then reconnected the large data cord (black) to a different ‘SATA’ connector port on the board. I replaced the tower cover and powered the computer on. The CD drive now works. I’m suspecting one of the SATA connector ports went bad or the large data cord (black) was reinstalled in the wrong port. Thank you for your help and suggestions with this!

Greetings,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

I would check data connections to the drive and motherboard. Then check the power connection to the drive.

It would appear the device may have bit the dust if connections are good and you have no Device Manager errors.

HP is offering some replacement drives for this product at HP Part Surfer (Link). You would have to compare the part number you have to get an exact replacement part. Any of those drives should work with your PC.

The BD part probably has Blue-ray included.
