Hi,

I got HP 8200 compaq elite sff with 2x 8Gb RAM installed into DIMM1 and DIMM2 slots. When I try to install additional memory into DIMM3 or DIMMM4 the PC does not start. Nothing on the screen and after 30 seconds the fan starts making noise.

I've upgraded the BIOS, set up the default BIOS settins - no luck. I've even tried another motherboard (from another HP 8200 compaq elite sff) and another memory sticks - still the same.

What could be the cause of this problem? What else can I try?

Hi:

You should have the 2 x 8 GB of memory installed in DIMM1 and DIMM3, so the memory runs in dual channel mode.

See chapter 8, pages 169 & 170 of the service manual at the link below:

What brand and spec memory are you trying to install?

It's probably not compatible, because even if you don't install the memory according to the instructions, it should still work in single channel or flex mode.

I've tried different modules:

- Samsung 8Gb PC3-12800U

- Kingston 4Gb PC3-10600

No luck

Thanks a lot for your help. Finally it was a CPU issue. With another CPU the PC works just fine.

Thanks again!

Glad you were able to get your PC working again.
