I'd like to put the slot to use.
I'm hoping there is a storage device that can plug in to it?
Perhaps the storage device would need some type of converter?
After getting to page 10 of untold pages of whatever, I thought I'd ask the Forum.
Does any Forum Member have experience with this slot and if so, what was that experience?
Best regards,
Mike Lynch

While I do no have that exact 8300 system, I have had some experience with those x1 slots. Some devices I have used:
this requires an unused USB header on the motherboard
M.2 ssd type adapter for adding a (non-bootable) disk drive
Firewire (1394) adapter that is obsolete but on occasion older digital cameras use Firewire
USB3 adapter for systems that do have or do not have enough USB3.
SCSI adapter for daisy chaining a lot of old SCSI disk drives.
