hp elite desk 705 G4 mini

Hello, I was trying to upgrade the A12 CPU and the manual says that only AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 2400GE is the highest option I can put in this motherboard, however, I keep seeing other CPUs like Ryzen 7 that have the same socket (AM4) so I was wondering if the BIOS Ver. 20 from 22 will allow for any other CPUs using the AM4 socket.

According to CPU-Z, this is the chipset info: HP 8464  AMD K15 IMC Southbridge: B350  Hp Q27. ver 02.20.00 AMG AGESA RavenPI-FP5-AM4 1.1.0.F

I was reading a bit about  AGESA and it talks about support  for Raven Bridge and PInacle PI processors, any please guide me into the right direction. I want to upgrade my CPU. Thaniks!

Thank you for your intpu. I was checing and I am going to go with AMD Ryzen Pro as the AMD RYZEN 7 users a bit more of power and a bit more of RAM Speed that I don't have. I wanted to ask this question: Right now there is an A12 processor in this mini PC, do you think that if I upgrade to AMD Ryzen 5, i will need to change the processor cooler? I was checking the Wraith Stealth but it looks more like a desktop mini ATX configuration and not looking too much for a fit for the mini pc type. Do you th8ink the same cooler would do? or am I looking at an upgrade there too?

@agalvis,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

The fastest processor compatible with your HP EliteDesk 705 G4 Desktop Mini Business PC, according to: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06112892.pdf, is the AMD Ryzen 5 2400GE with Radeon RX Vega 11 Graphics.

Frequently, it is indeed the case that there are faster processors that are compatible with HP PCs.

However, looking online, such as here: https://www.userbenchmark.com/System/HP-EliteDesk-705-G4-DM-35W-TAA/110126, I found no (User) evidence that an AMD Ryzen 7 is compatible with your desktop.

Hi!! Thank you so .much for your reply. I was checking.the Ryzen 2800 and 2700 and they have the same architecture of.the Ryzen 2500E and the same socket. Do you think buying any of these Ryzen 7  processor will waste my money? Theoretically the Ryzen 7 should work as they have the same.architexture and socket!

@agalvis,

I would never call pushing beyond the HP Reservation limit a waste of money, especially if you can return a part to Sender in case it doesn't work out.  I have had my share of unexpected -against the grain results, so to speak, with various legacy HP desktop processor upgrades the last year and a half.  And the opposite too, but at very little cost for trying.

Your line of thinking is the same as mine: theory.  That's how I figured out, for example, that the HP Compaq Pro 6300 SFF is compatible with the Xeon E3-12xx v2 family of processors, as shown in my Xeon E3-1290 v2 UserBenchMark entry here: HP Compaq Pro 6300 SFF Performance Results - UserBenchmark, or the i7-3770KHP Compaq Pro 6300 SFF Performance Results - UserBenchmark, even though HP did not mention these bad boys in the HP Compaq Pro 6300 SFF manual: c04034127.pdf (hp.com).

@agalvis,

I think not -please check if I got both processors correct: both AMD Ryzen 5 2400GE & the AMD Ryzen A12 9800E have the very same 35-watt TDP (thermal design power).  That being said, the Ryzen 5 2400GE may run a little hotter, but nothing in the architecture that I could see would suggest to me that you would have to upgrade your CPU heatsink/cooling fan.  However, if it turns out that your processor is running appreciably hotter, consider improving the airflow through your heatsink by either adding another cooling/chassis fan, and/or upgrade the wattage of your primary cooling fan.
