Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)
I have a few questions regarding this system.

First, what brand, aftermarket or OEM, of RAM should I be looking for when upgrading? I've heard this system can be very picky about it's RAM, and I'd like to avoid having to return incompatible RAM.

Second, this system was given to me and has a 20 pin motherboard power harness on the current power supply (which matches part numbers for this system), however the motherboard has a 24 pin connector. The motherboard part number also matches the system specs.

Why is the stock harness missing pins? Assuming the harness is seated properly and not forced in place to the motherboard connector, is it safe to power up? I have assembled many a computer, so I'm quite familiar with the proper placement of connectors and harnesses, and how important it is that they are not forced into place. Like trying to force a round peg into a square hole. Literally.

The HP a6114x is actually a Vista based machine circa 2007.  In that era, it was common to use what ever components worked with the motherboard needs.  If you were to add a PCIEx16 rev2 GPU (Legacy card, not UEFI), it would require the 24 pin ATX plug.  That allows upto 75W to the PCIE slot.  Above that need, a dedicated 6 or 8 pin PCIE power plug is required.   About memory (RAM) here are the specs.  With a 64 bit OS, you could use 4 x 2GB modules.
