Hi,
Since the day I setup this computer up there has been a buzzing sound. It sounds like the fan to me, and it runs non-stop! There are times it runs like it is being overworked and I will not even be on the computer. I've ran diagnostics on the fan, and it passed the tests but to me this is not normal. It runs from the time the computer is turned on until it is turned off. I bought the computer in July of 2022.
Any thoughts?
Thank you.

Hi @IslandGirl40,
Hi @
Welcome to HP Support Community!
We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊
1. Check Fan and Airflow:
- Dust and debris can affect fan performance. Power down the PC and carefully clean the air vents and fans.
- Ensure the computer is in a well-ventilated area.
2. Update BIOS and Drivers:
- Out-of-date BIOS or drivers can cause hardware issues including fan behavior.
- Visit HP Support and check for the latest BIOS and driver updates specifically for your PC model.
- Follow the instructions to update BIOS and system drivers.
3. Task Management and Resource Usage:
- High CPU usage when idle can cause the fan to run constantly. Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) to monitor CPU usage.
- Identify and disable unnecessary startup programs or background processes that may be causing high CPU demand.
4. Power Settings and Performance:
- Adjust the power settings to balance fan performance.
- Go to
Control Panel
>Power Options
>Change Plan Settings
>Change Advanced Power Settings
. - Adjust settings for processor power management and cooling policy to see if it affects fan behavior.
5. Inspect Hardware Installation:
- Sometimes the fan may be improperly mounted or internal cables could be obstructing the airflow.
- If comfortable, open the case carefully and check the fan installation.
6. Run Further Diagnostics:
- HP Support Assistant can perform more in-depth hardware diagnostic tests.
- Download and run HP Support Assistant to check for further troubleshooting steps.
