Hello i have 

HP Beats All-in-One 23-n100a Desktop PC 

there is an hdmi in button and I would like to know whether the computer must be running in the operating system to use this function as a console screen, or is it possible to somehow run hdmi in without booting into computer mode?
I will add that I had an AIO computer from MSI and there was no need to turn it into computer mode, it was enough to connect the device to the AIO and it displayed the image as a monitor
