Hello!

I’m new to computers, and I was gifted an HP Compaq Elite 8300 that I’d like to upgrade.

I’m familiar with upgrading the RAM, GPU, and CPU. However, I’m looking at options that require more than 240W, and that is what the current power supply supports. I’m looking for at least 350W. I’ve read a few threads on power supply upgrades for this computer, and I can tell it’s kind of complicated.

I wanted to ask about making a specific power supply work. I’m looking at this one:

It seems like it will physically fit in the unit based off dimensions (it may just require some homemade rigging to keep it in place). However, I’m confused about the specific wiring and if anything is needed to make this power supply compatible.

Let me know!

@brionno,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Based on the dimensions of the ITX power supply you're eyeballing, I assume you got the HP Compaq Elite 8300 SFF and not the CMT or MT model.

Yes, you can make a 24-pin ATX/ITX power supply work in your PC by using a compatible ATX power supply adapter, specifically this one: Amazon.com: COMeap 24 pin to 6 pin Adapter HP ATX Power Cable Compatible with Z200 Z210 Z220 Z230 Z2....

Kind Regards,
