My SATA hard drive is failing and would like to replace it with a  SS HD.   I need to know if I could use a 500 GB SS drive  or two 250 SS drives. Also if there is a guide available to change the hard drives.

Thanks

PS: This is the page where there explains which drivers could be accepted ( I believed)

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/model/5232881/document/c03387773#AbT6

But is a little confusing since it shows different SATAs and SS

I am guessing I can use a 250 GB SS HD to secure the operating system, a second 250 GB SS HD to increase capacity, and 1 external 1 TB HD for backup.

I was wondering if I could get help with this configuration as well.

You can upgrade to any 2.5 inch SSD.  I recommend the WD blue 500gb which in the $60 USD price range

I really recommend you upgrade to the 64 bit version of windows as it is a free upgrade. It does require a clean insallation.

Remove your existing HDD  and put in the SSD using 2.5 adapter

Install windows 10 64 bit (I assume home unless your 32 bit is "pro")

If the install does not find all the drivers, then use the windows 7 64  bit drivers

After installation, attach your old drive and copy any documents you need.   You will have to download and activate any licensed software.
