Hello HP Community,

I hope everyone is doing well and is having a very Merry Christmas. I have a query regarding my HP Compaq dc5800 Microtower. I don't know how to install a hard drive in the computer, nor how to take the hard drive out. I have read the service manual but I can't remove and install the hard drive. I don't understand why my hard drive won't move from the computer and why my other hard drive won't easily slot into the second available slot in the machine. Could you please help me out with this? It's really hard to find information on my HP systems like the Microtower version of the HP Compaq dc5800.

You're very welcome.

If there isn't another set of 4 screws on the side of the shiny chassis where you removed the cover, then the best place you can get them that I know of would be on eBay.

4x HP Compaq Blue 6-32 SFF Hard Drive Isolation Mounting Guide Screws 450712-001 | eBay UK

They are called anti-vibration screws and they are used in many different HP business desktops, so it doesn't matter if the eBay ad doesn't mention your specific model.

They work in the SFF and MT PCs.

Just check the pictures on the listing to see that they look like the ones that you have.

If you are replacing the drive you removed, you can just remove the 4 screws from the existing drive and transfer them to the new one.

That's what I always do.

Excellent, thank you very much @Paul_Tikkanen. It turns out that I was not releasing the hard drive properly, which I feel silly for. It is a release lever at the bottom of the hard drive and the computer. Then I was able to remove the hard drive from my computer. I do have one question though, what kind of screw is holding my hard drive in place, with the blue plastic bit as well? I was able to successfully install my second hard drive in the system, but it isn't able to stay in securely and click into place without those kind of screws that the original hard drive is using. And where can I find these screws to buy? Thank you.
