All 8 USB ports are black,

I tested all 8 of them and not one is functioning at Version 2 USB 😞

Older functions that work at V 1.1 do, but anything that was designed for V 2.0 comes up as unknown device

so even going into device manager and seeing unknown device if I try to update the driver or delete that port

once P/C checks for devices plugged in it goes right back to unknown device

Is there anything that can cause whatever I/C chip that handle USB or is it possible some USB added some time ago

updated the USB router of generic USB driver or could there be some jumper not set to have it function as version 2.0 USB ?

I went so far and copied all USB drivers from the system32\drivers folder of another P/C that also uses windows XP pro and copied those drivers to same folder on this DC5100 MT and made no difference

Yet in using a HP service diagnostics program that is on a bootable C/D so windows XP is not used and the tests show

all 8 USB ports pass, but I do not know what the tests really does ?

Any ideas why this HP 5100 MT only functions as Version 1.1 USB for all 8 ports ?

Thanks

Well for the future for others with same model HP and having the same problems I have

Countless time, effort, reading tons of posts to try and weed out this problem

To running HP diag programs to overwriting MSwindows XP Pro USB drivers

Nothing corrected where all 8 USB ports only functioned as the old Verson 1.1

I bought 1 PCI board product that had 4 version 2.0 USB ports, installed it and MSwindowsXP Pro used their USB drivers

and ALL devices that were failing with HPs hardware now worked with zero issues

Then installed a PCI-e product that had 7 USB ports that would allow Version 3 and older versions of USB to work

Had to install a driver for it but then tested and again all devices I plugged in worked with no problems

Yet again plug a device into this HP's own USB ports and same failures as "unknown devices"

Clearly then it was not the Win 7 Pro installed USB drivers leaving the problem as with the USB I/C chip HP/Compaq

used and/or something in Version 1.09 BIOS

Also another issue HP support shows a newer V 1.10 BIOS version I downloaded,

installed onto a bootable floppy and program would come back saying the BIOS was same version when in fact

showed as V 1.09 so I had software still do the update but after reboots BIOS still says it is the older V 1.09 😞

Zero support from HP on these problems, says after years of buying their desktops and laptops, never again will I
