Hi @lorenzo61

Welcome to the HP Support Community! Thanks for posting your query!

We're here to help you get back up and running.

Got it — before diving into fixes, let’s make sure we understand exactly what’s going on with your HP DVDRW drive. A few details will help narrow down the cause:

  • Device type: Is this an internal DVD drive inside a desktop/laptop, or an external USB DVD writer?
  • Model specifics: Do you know the exact model number or series of the drive (often printed on the bezel or label)?
  • Symptoms: When you press the eject button, do you hear any sound (like a motor trying to move), or is it completely unresponsive?
  • Power/connection: If it’s external, is the power light on? If internal, does the BIOS or Windows Device Manager detect it at all?
  • Usage history: You mentioned it’s rarely used — has it worked recently, or has it been dormant for years?
  • System context: Which HP system is this connected to (desktop, notebook, or standalone accessory), and what operating system are you running?

These details will help isolate whether we’re dealing with a mechanical issue (tray mechanism), a power/connection issue, or a software/driver recognition problem.

Can you share a bit more about the setup and what exactly happens when you try to open the drive?

We're looking forward to helping you get back up and running!

Regards,

Hawks_Eye
