HP Desktop PC M01-F2000i (4LSF8AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

Recently bought a new Desktop for my Grandfather and found that it did not come with an optical drive.  I know it can have one as it has the removable piece of the front and the slim slot on the inside however there is no indication of what drive to purchase.

Which one should I get?

@Derek_Kwas,

You can certainly try that -I used the trial and/by error method more than once to upgrade PCs.

The eBay link I provided shows quite a few OD options. Try one out from a Seller who allows for returns.

Kind Regards,

@Derek_Kwas,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

The optical drive part number that is compatible with your HP Desktop PC M01-F2000i (4LSF8AV) is: L71791-001 (849055-6C3) as referenced here: HP PartSurfer. See if you can find one with the correct bezel (front piece) here: HP 849055-6c3 in Memory (RAM) for sale | eBay.

However, you may still need a cable (or two) to connect an optical drive to your motherboard, meaning, it would probably be more work than you would think.

Why not consider purchasing an external optical drive, such as this example: Amazon.com: Amicool External DVD Drive USB 3.0 USB C CD Burner CD/DVD +/-RW Optical Drive,Slim Porta....

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

Thanks for the reply,

The reason for going with an internal one for this PC is that it will really just save space.  Unfortunately the optical drive you mentioned does not seem to be too common anymore.  Is there another one that may be compatible?  I see that the sizing is 9.5mm, would another internal 9.5mm optical drive be compatible?

~Thanks
