Hi Riddle_D

Thanks for the reply.

HP state the following-

"When you upgrade the BIOS on your PC, a copy of the previous BIOS version is stored in the HP_TOOLS partition of your hard drive. Many HP computers have an emergency BIOS recovery feature that allows you to recover and install the last known good version of the BIOS from the hard drive, as long as the hard drive remains functional. This emergency recovery feature is separate from the BIOS and is designed to work in the event of a catastrophic BIOS failure."

I don't have a HP_Tools partition on my hard drive as it is MBR and has 4 partitions. My HP Tools is on the USB Flash Drive along with the HP UEFI Diagnostics.  What I can do is a fresh install of Windows 10 using UEFI and GPT. I don't have any data on the drive I need to backup. This will then allow me to create a HP Tools partition on the Hard drive. If I then do the BIOS update I understand a copy will be made of the existing BIOS and that I should be able to revert to it if the new BIOS Version is a problem.

"Many HP computers have an emergency BIOS recovery feature" How can I check if my HP Pavilion Desktop 500-406a has this feature.?

Or

Is there a way to copy the existing BIOS onto a USB Stick before I do a BIOS update?

HP_SupportAssistant.JPGThe other thing is when I run the HP Support Assistant it doesn't suggest any BIOS updates,

Cheers
