Hi @EnoSat,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
When updating the BIOS on your HP ENVY All-in-One - 27-b101nx from F34 to F36, encountering an interruption or error can be frustrating. To assist you effectively, I have a few questions.
- What is the exact error message or window that appears during the BIOS update? (e.g., permissions issue, BIOS lock, version mismatch)
- Are you updating the BIOS through Windows, HP Support Assistant, or using a USB flash drive via the BIOS setup?
- Did you ensure the system was fully charged or plugged into a reliable power source before starting the update?
- Have you made any recent changes to BIOS security settings, such as enabling Secure Boot, BIOS password, or setting specific permissions?
- Have you successfully performed BIOS updates on this system before? If so, were there any specific steps taken?
- Have there been any recent hardware changes or installations (e.g., RAM upgrade, SSD change) before attempting the BIOS update?
Meanwhile, you answer that, let's try a few steps here.
Step 1: Check BIOS Update Prerequisites
Ensure Power Stability:
- Make sure the computer is plugged into a reliable power source. BIOS updates require uninterrupted power, and the process can fail if the device loses power.
Download the Correct BIOS File:
- Verify that you have downloaded the correct BIOS update file specific to your model from the HP Support website.
- Double-check that the version F36 is indeed compatible with your model.
Step 2: Review BIOS Settings
Reset BIOS to Default Settings:
- Restart your computer and press Esc or F10 to enter the BIOS setup.
- Navigate to Exit and select Load Setup Defaults or Restore Defaults, then save and exit.
- Try running the BIOS update again.
Check Security Settings:
- In the BIOS, check if Secure Boot is enabled. Try disabling Secure Boot temporarily and then attempt the update.
- Ensure that BIOS Lock or Write Protection is disabled if such options exist.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @EnoSat,
Please find the remaining steps below.
Step 3: Run the BIOS Update in Safe Mode or a Clean Boot Environment
Perform a Clean Boot:
- Run the update after performing a clean boot in Windows to avoid interference from background applications.
- Press Win + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
- Go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and click Disable all.
- Go to the Startup tab, click Open Task Manager, and disable all startup items.
- Restart your computer and attempt the BIOS update again.
Use Safe Mode:
- Boot your system into Safe Mode and try running the update from there. This can help bypass potential software conflicts.
Step 4: Use HP BIOS Update (UEFI)
- Create a BIOS Update USB Drive:
- Download the BIOS update executable file from HP’s support page onto a USB flash drive.
- Restart the computer and press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu opens.
- Press F2 to open the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI menu.
- Select Firmware Management or BIOS Update from UEFI, and follow the prompts to update the BIOS from the USB drive.
Step 5: Check for Software Conflicts
Disable Antivirus or Security Software:
- Temporarily disable any antivirus or third-party security software that might block BIOS modifications.
Uninstall HP Support Assistant:
- If the update is being run through HP Support Assistant and failing, try uninstalling and reinstalling HP Support Assistant.
Step 6: Check for Hidden Background Processes
Terminate Background Processes:
- Use Task Manager to end any unnecessary background processes that might interfere with the BIOS update.
Disable Startup Services:
- Disable unnecessary startup services and applications that could be preventing the update from proceeding.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, I recommend you contact phone support for further assistance.
