HP ENVY 34 inch All-in-One Desktop PC 34-c1000 (4G584AV)

I have HP Envy 34-c1001a and wish to upgrade to 2x32GB.  Support documentation mentions Four DDR4 SODIMM sockets however this AIO has DDR5 SODIMM sockets.  Have tried Crucial 2x32GB CT32G48C40S5 and also Corsair 2x32GB CMSX64GX5M2A4800C40.  During startup they set at 3600 but later hit "Unsupported Memory". These are DDR5-4800 with specs just like the existing 2x8GB Samsung DDR5-4800 installed. How do we get Crucial to work?  In general, the support documentation about c1001a is inaccurate as it leans towards DDR4 when this PC is DDR5.

Short is I have model c1001aPC which came with 2x16GB Samsung DDR5-4800 installed which ran at 4000.

Purchased this Envy with the intent to upgrade beyond 16GB for my situation.

Tried similar DDR5-4800 SODIMM memory (Crucial 2x32GB CT32G48C40S5 and also Corsair 2x32GB CMSX64GX5M2A4800C40) which fired up at 3600 but later failed HP test with Unsupported Memory.

Now HP has memory but is extremely hard to get (told not available) and costs 5 times.

Unfortunately, support with HP did not progress and their support/product documentation is very inaccurate.

What does work is 2x32GB Samsung DDR5-4800 (M425R4GA3BB0-CQKOL) which for 64GB will run at 3600 with a latency of 16.67ns (2x32GB at 3600 with CAS of 30).  This is about the same latency of 16ns for the originally installed memory (2x16GB at 4000 with CAS of 32).

If you want to upgrade your memory then Samsung DDR5-4800 worked for me, and hopefully you.

Very hard to get Samsung SODIMM as they have been snapped up by manufacturers due to previous supply issues.

I got mine from The US, Amazon.

hi

yes, an error, because in the same page

  • Supports up to PC4-28800 (DDR5-3600) for 8 GB and 16 GB
  • but  PC4-28800 should be DDR4 3600
  • Supports up to PC4-32000 (DDR5-4000) for 32 GB
  • and PC4-3200 DDR4-4000 mhz

https://support.hp.com/bg-en/document/c08151586

so

https://www.crucial.fr/memory/ddr5/ct32g48c40s5

DDR5-4800 SODIMM

CT32G48C40S5

in this case then try what is mentioned here DDR-4000mhz

Hi, thanks for your response. I tried the Crucial 2x32GB DDR5-4800 and it fired up at 3600 but then went unsupported memory message further along the startup process.  Unusual as there is currently Samsung 2x8GB DDR5-4800 installed which fires up at 4000, which is fine.  So the Crucial is like the Samsung but it does not work.  I believe Crucial (and others) are capable of running at 4000 (like Samsung) but HP is barring this.  Seems like locking out unaffiliated branded RAM.  So now is the documentation going to be updated?

This support info is inaccurate for Envy 34-c1001aPC (my unit).  Here is one example.  My unit came with 2x8GB=16GB Samsung DDR5-4800 (PC5-4000) installed which runs at 4000, so the document support statement "Supports up to PC4-28800 (DDR5-3600) for 8 GB and 16 GB" is wrong.  It should say at least "Supports up to PC5-32000 (DDR5-4000) for 8 GB and 16 GB".  PC4-xxxxx is for DDR4, PC5-xxxxx is for DDR5.  Unit Envy 34-c1001aPC has DDR5 SODIMM sockets, not DDR4.  This is just one example.  There are other discrepancies.  May I suggest that the support documentation (for Envy 34-c1001aPC) be reassessed and then updated online.
