HP ENVY h8-1500et

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to upgrade my HP ENVY h8-1500et desktop. The upgrades I have in mind are:

  • RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury 2x8 GB DDR3 1600 MHz (HX316C10FBK2/16)

  • GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1650 D6 VENTUS XS OCV3 (low power, no 6-pin connector)

Before proceeding, I’d appreciate your advice on the following:

  1. Will my current PSU be sufficient for this setup, or do I need to replace it?

  2. My BIOS version is AMI 8.14, dated December 17, 2012. Will I need to update the BIOS for the system to work properly with the new RAM and GPU?

Any help or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Greetings @ziheros

Welcome to the HP Forum.

Your PC is no longer supported by HP. This means it is very difficult to look at your PC's specifications. And HP would not be providing driver updates or BIOS updates for your PC.

The GTX 1650 should be okay as your PC appears to have a UEFI BIOS and the existing power supply should be good to go. The PC's BIOS version is 8.14 and this graphics card gets power only from the PCIe x16 slot.

Your PC would need a minimum 250 watt power supply. Check your power supply to see what you have.

Using Kingston memory is a hit and miss proposition. This memory may work or it may not.

It is usually best to check Crucial Memory for compatible memory modules on older HP consumer PCs. I had a HP h8-1380t which ran great using Crucial memory modules.

Use the Crucial Scanner to see if memory upgrades are available for your PC's MB.

Thank you for your answer.

My computer:
Motherboard:IPMMB-FM (Formosa) uATX
BIOS version: bios 8.14 12/17/2012
- Processor: Intel Core i7-3770 (4 cores / 8 threads, 3.4 GHz)
- RAM: 2x8 GB DDR3-1600 (total 16 GB)
- Storage: 500 GB SSD
- Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
- Power supply: 850W Corsair RM850e
- Status: uATX
I couldn't upgrade the bios version, I took it to a computer shop, he couldn't upgrade it either. He advised me that it's better not to do this upgrade. Because it will cause problems. There are user posts about this on forums.

I want to install GTX1660S GPU instead of GTX660 GPU in this configuration, but I want to make sure it will work. Can you help me?
