HP Elite SFF 800 G9 PC (4G086AV)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I was wanting to add a large capacity 10TB hard drive inside the HP Elite SFF 800 G9 desktop.

I contacted support and was told I was restricted to 2 TB???? I suspect they were confusing the capacity for an NVME drive.

So just confirming with the community that there is no issue installing a 3.5 inch 10 TB drive inside a HP Elite SFF G9 desktop.

Thanks.

@EDEK_D,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Your HP Elite SFF 800 G9 PC (4G086AV), according to: HP Elite Small Form Factor 800 G9 PC - Customizable, can be fitted with 2 x 2TB M.2 NVMe SSDs, and 2 x 2TB SATA HDDs/SSDs.

The 2TB "restriction" is what HP tested on this platform, but installing a 10TB drive should be no problem whatsoever.

As a matter of fact, if you intend to format your 10TB hard drive as a GPT disk, it can be as big as you can find. As big as 9.4 billion TB (9.4 ZB).  So, if you are thinking big, the largest internal HDD I could locate for you to purchase at this moment in time, would be a 22TB Western Digital drive for a trivial $600: WD Gold WD221KRYZ 22TB 7200 RPM 512MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - Newegg.com.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,
