HP Elite Slice
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Has anyone successfully upgraded the i7-6700T processor in this system to an i7-7700T?

I have installed the latest BIOS (2.13 for N25) and tried and the system won't boot from the i7-7700T CPU.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

You want to replace a 6th generation processor with a 7th generation processor? Typically that requires a BIOS update that supports 7th generation processors to be installed before the 7th generation processor is installed.

You can order an Elite Slice with a 7th generator processor. HP has been known to use different system board in it's PCs so that might be another issue.

There is little information posted on the HP Elite Slice except for the sales server as of this posting.

Read the OP.  I already installed the BIOS update.

Reread what I just posted.

@Big_Dave - KBL support has been included in the BIOS (per release notes) since version 2.09.

I want to know if anyone has ACTUALLY gotten this to work, because I've been trying with each new BIOS and a shiny new i7-7700T for the past 3 months.  I'm looking for user reports here, not a "do the release notes say it is supposed to work".

Not my first rodeo, I manage hardware for a Cloud Services company.

Did you not read my post?

I have noticed that other HP products use different system boards depending on what was originally ordered. As an example, some laptops not ordered with a HD might not be provisioned physically inside to support a HD even if the internal HD space is available. A different system board is used that contains the SATA system board header for the HD.

I did read your post, BEFORE you edited it.

There are two versions of the BIOS (for N25 and P25).  Both list KBL support.

That is correct as I was still adding information. Yes, I do see both versions of the BIOS.

Did you read my information about HP's practice to use different system boards?

Since you didn't mention clearing the CMOS. You might try doing that procedure.

I understand the different motherboard versions.  A phone call several months ago with a HP rep indicated that my system should support the KBL processor, but the confidence in this response was less than optimal.

I see no way to clear a CMOS on the Elite Slice.
