Elitedesk 800 G4 DM

I am struggling to find differences between these 2 product lines, indeed looking at these across the various G[X] I can see no real differences in the spec sheets, and even the MOBOs using the MOBO viewer.

I think the 600 has a smaller CPU selection, and may have some different capabilities for "corporate" level (ie remote management) support, but that's about it.

I can see the 400's have 1 less NVME than these. Both of the 35W have the video connector where as the 65W do not.  They all seem to support the same Flex options in a give G version.

Is this marketing hype or is there something fundamental I am overlooking.

@RangerZ,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

The HP EliteDesk 800 DM (Desktop Mini) and the HP ProDesk 600 DM series (G4-G6) are (very compact) small form factor (SFF) PCs designed for business use, but they have distinct differences in terms of features, target audience, and hardware capabilities.

The difference between the two series is something like the difference between a luxury performance sedan such as Audi A6 vs. a mid-tier sedan such as a Honda Accord.

In any regards, here is a detailed comparison:

1. Positioning in Product Line

  • EliteDesk 800 DM:
    • Part of the Elite series, which is HP's premium line of business desktops.
    • Focused on enterprise customers, offering better security, manageability, and performance.
    • Comes with higher-end hardware options and advanced features.
  • ProDesk 600 DM:
    • Part of the Pro series, positioned as a mid-tier solution for small to medium-sized businesses.
    • Balances cost and performance but doesn’t offer as many high-end features as the Elite series.

2. Hardware and Performance

  • EliteDesk 800 DM:
    • Generally equipped with more powerful CPUs, including Intel vPro-enabled processors for better remote manageability.
    • Support for higher memory capacity (up to 64 GB DDR4 in many models).
    • Enhanced thermal design for sustained high performance.
  • ProDesk 600 DM:
    • Offers mainstream performance for business needs.
    • Typically maxes out at lower configurations compared to the EliteDesk (e.g., slightly lower memory or CPU options in certain configurations).
    • Still capable of handling most office tasks but not as optimized for high workloads.

3. Build Quality

  • EliteDesk 800 DM:
    • Premium build materials and a more robust design.
    • Designed to meet MIL-STD 810G standards for durability.
    • Enhanced thermal performance to maintain stability under heavy loads.
  • ProDesk 600 DM:
    • Good build quality but not as rugged as the Elite series.
    • Focuses more on cost-efficiency than premium materials or durability.

4. Security Features

  • EliteDesk 800 DM:
    • Advanced security features such as HP Sure Start (self-healing BIOS), HP Sure Click, HP Sure Recover, and more.
    • Designed for enterprises needing strict security protocols.
  • ProDesk 600 DM:
    • Includes essential security features like TPM (Trusted Platform Module), HP Client Security Manager, and BIOS protection.
    • Lacks some of the more advanced features found in the Elite series.

5. Expandability

  • EliteDesk 800 DM:
    • Offers better expandability with additional ports and upgrade options (e.g., support for dual M.2 drives in some models).
  • ProDesk 600 DM:
    • Limited expandability compared to the Elite series.
    • Still sufficient for most small to medium-sized business needs.

6. Manageability

  • EliteDesk 800 DM:
    • Designed for enterprise-level manageability, with Intel vPro, remote management capabilities, and integration with enterprise IT tools.
  • ProDesk 600 DM:
    • Basic manageability features suitable for smaller IT environments but lacks the enterprise-focused tools.

7. Target Audience

  • EliteDesk 800 DM:
    • Enterprises and large businesses that require top-tier performance, security, and reliability.
  • ProDesk 600 DM:
    • Small to medium-sized businesses looking for cost-effective solutions that meet general business needs.

8. Price

  • EliteDesk 800 DM: Higher price due to premium features, better build quality, and higher-end configurations.
  • ProDesk 600 DM: More affordable, designed for cost-conscious businesses.

If you’re choosing between the two, consider your performance, security, and manageability needs. The EliteDesk 800 DM is better for demanding environments, whilst the ProDesk 600 DM is ideal for budget-conscious setups without sacrificing essential functionality.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,
