HP EliteDesk 800 G1 Small Form Factor (SFF) - SSD compatibility

Hello - first time poster, long time reader....

Have an HP EliteDesk 800 G1 Small Form Factor (SFF), with a HDD that has seen better days.

Interested in upgrading to an SSD, and so found the HP Options Parts list for the HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF here: https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c03831415

Have also chatted with resellers and have received mixed messages re: what SSD size is compatible with an HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF, if any.

Looked at Crucial MX500 for reasonable priced SSDs and used their Advisor Tool (for what its worth) and results came back positive for 500GB, 1TB and 2TB - even to the point where Crucial offer a 100% money back guarantee on compatibility if bought through their website, and based on the Advisor Tool.

Confusion comes from HP's PC Specification page for the HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF - https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03832938#AbT1

It states only supporting "Internal Storage - Up to 500 GB SATA hard drive; up to 500 GB self-encrypting solid state drive; up to 160 GB solid state drive".

• Any ideas, or feedback on compatibility from those that have upgraded from HDD to SSD...of any kind...??

Also looking at Samsung SSDs, but would rather not go too over the top - generally dont game or anything to warrant extra expense.

• For bonus  points, anyone running their SSD as a boot disk, and their old HDD as long term storage...?? Any issues with setting that up on an HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF...??

Hello

that model is at least 6 years old . at that time HP didn't test SSD bigger than 160GB, thta is the reason why you don't see a bigger size.

I replaced few weeks ago , on a 9 years old workstation , the boot disk from 1TB HDD to 2.5" SATA 512GB SSD (I didn't buy a new SSD , it was a spare  disk already available at home)

It took me a while to move the OS and data and had some boot issue, but finally I made it working.
