Are you using a PCIe adapter for the M.2 SSD?

The M.2, 2280SS, PCIe SSD types are compatible with the BIOS and motherboard.  (SS stands for single sided)

If you still can, return the WD Green M.2 SSD and take a look at the Samsung MZVLW256HEHP SM961  and the Intel SSD 545s Series 512GB M.2 2280 80mm SATA III 6Gb/s PCIe PCI Express 64-Layer 3D NAND TLC 512G  SSD units. They both have the correct specs for your PC.

In Windows, invoke the DiskPart utility and use the list disk command to see if the SSD is recognized as being present.

The image below shows an example particularly the first command.

It is 480GB SATA M.2 WDS480G2G0B

That would seem to indicate that it is not compatible with the BIOS and motherboard of your PC.

The Samsung 950 NVMe M.2 SSD you mentioned you were using is a great device.

Why are you wanting to change to the WD Green SSD?

Personally, I would prefer to use the Samsung version.
