Hello,
have an HP EliteDesk 800 G4 Mini PC (with RX560) and on boot get an error: GPU fan error
With a confirmation the pc boots up and works fine - its get kind of hot.
I replaced the fan (tested with battery) but still same GPU error on boot and the fan does not work when mounted on motherboard.
my conclusion: HDDfan socket on mainboard defective. (on mainboard layout in manual its name HDDfan).
Any suggestions how to fix the socket? or ideas how to proceed?
many thanks in advance
best

Welcome to our HP User Forum!
First thing to do is to put on your reader's glasses or use a magnifying glass, and check if all four metal prongs inside the connector are standing upright and evenly spread out as they should be:
If they are, unfortunately it would mean taking apart your HP EliteDesk 800 G4 Mini (remove the motherboard), in order to inspect the rear-side of the motherboard to see if there are any burn marks where the "HDDFAN" connector is located.
You should not use your graphics card as long as its dedicated cooling fan doesn't work.
To be honest, in a worst-case scenario, you'll have to replace your motherboard (p/n: L05127-001), which (right now, at least) will set you back only about $35: HP Motherboard L05127-001 | No CPU | eBay.
Hope this was helpful.

I need to run, but I actually thought of something else that may -emphasis on may, be the issue: insufficient power. Powering the RX 560 you should have at least the 150-watt charger (such as: 150W HP EliteDesk 705 800 G4 Desktop Mini Business PC MD power supply ac adapter | eBay), better still the 230-watt charger (such as: GENUINE HP AC POWER SUPPLY / ADAPTER 230W SERIES HSTNN-LA12 | eBay).
If you got the 90-watt -or heaven forbid the 65-watt charger, that would be a big no-no.
