HP EliteDesk 800 G4 SFF
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, I bought an HP EliteDesk 800 G4 SFF with an Intel i5-8500 processor. The processor theoretically should support 128 GB of RAM, but the computer's specification indicates a maximum of 64 GB of RAM.

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/129939/intel-core-i58500-processor-9m-cache-up-...

I read this thread:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Max-Memory-and-Bus-Speed-EliteD...

but I still don't have certainty whether it's possible to install 128 GB of RAM there. I would appreciate an answer. Best regards.

Hi:

There could be reasons for this that I wouldn't be able to explain.

HP could have put a max memory limitation in the BIOS.

The 128 GB max memory indicated by Intel could be based on a PC having more than 4 memory slots.

You can run this command to see how much memory your PC can support:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

I wouldn't try going beyond what the command prompt report indicates.

Hi, thank you for the response. I'm out of town and don't have access to a computer, but when I get back, I'll check that command.
