Hello, I saw that my G5 Mini had an option to upgrade the GPU to the AMD RX 560 (discrete card). I installed the unit but it doesn't seem to have power or not being recognized by my system.
I'm wondering if I have a missing motherboard slot or if my power adapter needs to be upgraded to give it enough power. I currently have a 90W power adapter. I noticed a few teardown videos on YouTube shows a motherboard slot but some do not. Any help would be appreciated.

Given the headaches involved with finding a spare J41 MXM slot (unlikely), then soldering it in place (nigh impossible, trust me), and then hoping your motherboard will actually accept/recognize it (iffy at best), seems to me that your best/easiest approach is to swap motherboards -here is an affordable SSID 8595 motherboard purchase option for just $68 from a "top-rated plus" (trusted) eBay Seller: HP Motherboard L52071-001 | No CPU | eBay.

If you had an HP EliteDesk 800 G5 Desktop Mini (DM), your motherboard (p/n: L54553-001 "SPS-MBD 800G5DM CFL-Q370 35W") with SSID: 8595, should look like this:
Reference: HP PartSurfer
However, you do not have an HP EliteDesk 800 G5 DM, but an HP EliteDesk 800 G4 DM, which is not compatible with the RX 560 graphics card:
Not to worry per se: you can still upgrade your DM's graphics capabilities, but not as easy or as inexpensive as my recent HP EliteDesk 800 G4 DM upgrade project shows: Solved: Upgrading an HP EliteDesk 800 65W G4 Desktop Mini (DM) - HP Support Community - 8708671.
Hope this was helpful.

My bad: I stand corrected -indeed, you got an HP EliteDesk 800 G5 DM motherboard, with p/n: L54551-001 "SPS-MBD 800G5DM CFL-Q370 65W":
Nevertheless, the same graphics restriction applies though: the GPU slot is missing on this G5 DM model motherboard compared with the G5 DM motherboard Baseboard Product 8595...

Looks like an HP RX 560 4GB graphics card/heatsink/cooling fan combo (p/n: L21466-001) doesn't come cheap: the lowest pricing I found via eBay was $142:
So, if it was the case that you spend around that much for your RX 560, the additional motherboard expenditure would be worth-it, IMO.

Thanks for the find, wow it's becoming a much bigger headache than I realized. The Rx560 is already about 7 years old but I thought it would be convenient to have a mini pc to play a couple games on the family computer.
I actually have a more powerful PC in storage that I can just plug and play a new GPU. The PC is pretty bulky but I might dust it off and just hide it under the desk lol.

Thanks for the help again. I caved in and ordered that motherboard since you can't beat that price! I'll just transfer everything to the new board and get a new 150w power supply to comfortably handle the CPU and GPU.

A 150-watt power charger would likely work, but if you are going to buy one of those, I would recommend a 230-watt power charger with p/n: 677765-001, like I used for my G3/G4-DM upgrade projects.
You can purchase one of these for less than $20 via eBay. It is better to err on the side of caution having more wattage under the hood, so to speak.
