Hi, my HP Desktop Envy All in One has stopped working. I initially thought it was the cable as my dog has chewed a bit of it, the light at the back where the wire connects to the computer has a light on as normal, but the light above the on button is not on. I have tried holding the on button for 20 seconds as per instructions on google. I then bought another cable and having the same problem. Can anyone help? I can take to a computer person tomorrow but due to start work at 8am so would like to resolve this problem before then. Thanks in advance!

Hi @Becky214,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I’m sorry you’re going through this; I understand the concern and don’t worry I’ll help you with this.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  1. What is the exact model of your HP Envy All-in-One?
  2. When you press the power button, does anything happen any sound, flicker, or fan movement?
  3. Has the system shown any unusual behavior recently (overheating, freezing, shutting down unexpectedly)?
  4. Are you using the original HP power adapter, or a third-party one?

In the meantime, here are a few things you can safely try:

1. Perform a full power drain

  1. Unplug the power cable from the PC
  2. Hold the power button for 15–20 seconds
  3. Plug the cable back in
  4. Try turning the PC on again

This can clear static buildup, which is a common cause of “no power” symptoms.

2. Check the power adapter connection

Since your dog chewed the cable originally, also check:

  • The brick (power adapter)
  • The connector at the back of the PC
  • Wiggle the connector gently to confirm it isn't loose

Even if the small LED is on, the adapter may not be delivering full power.

3. Try a different wall outlet

Sometimes the outlet or power strip is the culprit.

Plug the PC directly into:

  • A different wall socket
  • Without any extension or surge protector

4. Look for signs of funtionality

When you try to power it on, check for:

  • A quick flash of the screen
  • A faint click
  • Fan movement

No signs at all often means:

  • Faulty power button
  • Failed power board inside the AIO
  • Damaged internal power circuit (possible if the cable shorted)

5. Disconnect all accessories

Unplug everything:

  • USB drives
  • Keyboard/mouse
  • Printers
  • External hard drives

A faulty USB device can prevent startup.
