Does anyone know if there is a BIOS update for the Baker motherboard to enable compatibility with 11th Gen Intel Core Processors? I wanted to swap the i7-10700 from my Envy with an i5-11400 from my gaming setup. I know the H470 boards can support 11th Gen but a bios update is required. Maybe someone knows the specific manufacturer of the Baker motherboard and they may have a bios update that works? Thoughts?

hi

  • TDP: up to 65 W
  • Socket type: LGA 1200
  • Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
    Processor
    TDP
Intel Core i5-10400 (Comet Lake-S) 2.9 GHz base frequency, up to 4.3 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology, 12 MB L3 cache, 6 cores
    65 W
Intel Core i5-10400F (Comet Lake-S) 2.9 GHz base frequency, up to 4.3 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology, 12 MB L3 cache, 6 cores
    65 W
Intel Core i7-10700 (Comet Lake-S) 2.9 GHz base frequency, up to 4.8 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology, 16 MB L3 cache, 8 cores
    65 W
Intel Core i7-10700F (Comet Lake-S) 2.9 GHz base frequency, up to 4.8 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology, 16 MB L3 cache, 8 cores
    65 W
Intel Core i3-10100 (Comet Lake-S) 3.6 GHz base frequency, up to 4.3 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost Technology, 6 MB L3 cache, 4 cores
    65 W
Intel Celeron G5900 (Comet Lake-S) 3.4 GHz base frequency, 2 MB L3 cache, 2 cores
    58 W
Intel Pentium G6400 (Comet Lake-S) 4.0 GHz base frequency, 4 MB L2 cache, 2 cores
    58 W

if you have this only, it means that hp has not tested anything more, so no bios update for a possible processor that is not in this list
If the motherboard is supposed to be compatible, you could try, but no guarantee of operation
There will probably not be an update developed for this type of problem.

Thank you. It already has that BIOS update. I know all H470 motherboards, especially the mainstream brands such as Gigabyte, ASUS, ASRock, etc. are able to support 11th gen intel CPU's if they have the updated BIOS to allow it. However, HP has not released a BIOS for this one that I can find. So, if HP is the manufacturer of the board and they are not releasing that necessary BIOS update, I guess I'm out of luck.

Between this and the ridiculously expensive proprietary power supply as the only option to upgrade, I certainly won't buy another prebuilt computer from HP.

Thanks for your help and responses!

sorry
I can't advise you to test anyway.
But in rare cases, it works even without updating the bios..
But it is very rare!
If you want to be able to do what you want, with your computer, most often, you have to avoid assembled computers
There is a beginning, of change it seems to me, but not yet that!

We have very good computers here, but it's more for a public, who needs something already configured, and who doesn't need to modify the computer too much...

then it's just my opinion, if the computer is in its original configuration, your problem is more the lack of a graphics card
