HP Envy Recline 27-k350

Hello HP Community! First of all thank you for reading this and if you reply... double thank you!

I have a HP Envy Recline 27-k350 and after I unpacked from a move I plugged in my All-In-One and..... nothing. No led Indicator light, no fan sounds (not that you would hear them) and all buttons pressed including obviously the power button... nothing! Afterwards the quickest option I could have without an online order wait was a local computer shop universal power adapter, which the computer "expert" said should work after seeing my computers spec sheet that I brought along. Again NOTHING. Now I'm thinking possibly there is something specific and odd maybe with the model and I need the specific power adapter. So I have one ordered. What I am hoping is that the orginal power adapter burnt out somehow... the replacement "universal" adapter didn't quite cut it and this model specific power adapter will work.

If it doesn't I wanted to get ahead of the problem and ask the community what the might be. Might it be the internal power adapter component that the cord plugs into? Maybe a loose internal connection of some sort?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

BONUS QUESTION!       In 2020... is this still a good computer for a professional video editor? If I upgrade the memory to 16gb, upgrade the processor to an intel core i7-4790t would it be something that would be impressive to my peers?

@Envy27Reclining,

Bonus question answers:

1) The existing CPU is faster.

2) Existing unit,  8GB + 4GB of DDR3-1600 in a dual channel mode.

It runs dual channel until 4GB is expended (4GB + 4GB).  it then uses the last 4 GB of the 8GB module as single channel mode. That is poor design. It should be matching 8GB + 8GB. If you can find the exact same module, that would help.

3) If not, Crucial has a matching pair, as shown here.

4) DDR3-1600 vs DDR3-1866, no real increase in performance.

As to the original problem: Take the entire unit to a local non-big-box store for evaluation and repair. If you leery of your data being copied, ask them to give you the hard drive before evaluation.  A repair shop does not need your drive.

Hello WB2001!

Thanks for your assistance!

I just received the original power cable that comes with it (that I ordered last week) and the indicator light came right up! I was so excited until I hit the Power Button. I hear the fans come on, the power button light comes up, the screen quickly flickers once then stays black. What would be my next diagnostic step to figure out whats wrong? I am not sure if the screen is out or if the system is messed up or if its the video card.... Any direction you can point me in would be greatly appreciated!

Best,

Cort

@Envy27Reclining,

I have moved 1200 miles,  and did not have your issues. That is why I said a locale shop ( not a big box store) might be more able to listen, diagnosis, and find the problem.  Those AIO have a power board and inverter board. It gets complicated.
