Hi,
This computer was a bit of a project - Bought it halfprice from PC world as a customer return (some years back) as the tech people in PC world couldn't fix it.. It was fitted with a 16Gb (or similarly sized SSD) which was faulty - I installed and repaired Windows several times before sussing this out - After much messing around I managed to get the Windows key out and reinstalled windows onto a new SSD ( I'm telling you all of this as the sheer hassle factor seems to be common to anything made by HP that I've bought recently)
The new SSD works as a single boot drive (rather than as a hybrid type setup (optane?) which the machine was originally fitted with / configured to use) - This takes a bit of remembering Bios (UEFI) - wise whenever I do a Bios UEFI update as it tries to revert back to the original boot method.
I only tend to use this computer in my man-cave at Christmas time and usually it takes a day or so tinkering to get it working as windows is so out of date the battery has died etc - One year the PSU failed and the original graphics card failed as well so I fitted a 750 watt PSU and have fitted several other graphics cards.
Back in the summer I (had a very unusual week off at home) decided to see if I could get any records (I've had a couple in the past) on 3d Mark with a i3770 and a Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 1060 WF2 3GB GDDR5 PCI-E running on air (I couldn't get a radiator into the case and was considering drilling holes for pipes and fitting it outside but didn't in the end - as I ran out of time) Iv'e left the CPU running it's standard cooling also.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure I had flashed the board to the latest version 8.21 Rev.A - But I may not have as the years whistle by and I actually have 20 odd computers in the house and get them all mixed up sometimes in me little brain!! 🙂 The GTX 1060 ran for the week whilst I was messing around on 3d Mark - It would play up when I restarted it and I'd tinker about a bit and get it to go again. The next time I tried turning the computer on (sometime between August and now) it wouldn't run with the 1060 so I stuck the previous card (GTX 470) back in and it worked fine - Holidays again so I thought ~ "I know I'll see if I can get the 1060 back working again" etc
Turned the PC on with GTX470 in and it worked - Stuck the 1060 in and it didn't - Then I thought I wonder if there are any updates for this thing for the recent vulnerabilities etc and I flashed it over again with 8.21a (even though it's dated 2015 and I'm sure I'd have done it back in the summer / loads of times before) and stuck the 1060 back in and it started up and went to repair Windows screen! Decided I didn't have time in my life to repair Windows so restarted it and nothing!
So that was sadly the last time it worked. I changed the onboard battery a few times (usually fixes it) and attempted some crazy Bios resetting rigmarole I found on some dodgy forum somewhere.
The most I seem to get out of it now are the 6 beeps for GCard failure / whatever card I fit - Makes me think maybe the PSU has gone faulty or the MBoard is fried - Now the reason I'm here is because I need a schematic of the board with all of the jumpers (every single one) in their correct eeha ready to go positions! Reason being I've been experimenting with them all and didn't take a picture before I did it! (Doh = you know what it's like!) I've not got time to buy a replacement board to check against as time is running out ~ so I thought I'd ask if anyone knows where I might find one? (schematic) Also if you have any interestingly spurious ideas on what's wrong with my computer?
Let me know!
Andy
