HP External Keyboard Model KU-1156
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hi team,

I have an external HP External Keybaord- Model KU-1156 , I need to disable the FN key on the external Keyboard so that I can use the normal short cut keys.

For example, if I want to put the Volume up   I need to click on FN key + F11

I would like just to use the shortcuts without using the FN key.

I have made the changes on my HP EliteBook 840 G2 from BIOS and it works fine on the inernal keyboard except on the external keyboard.

Let me know if you need anything else.

I have Windows 8.1

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding issues with the keyboard. I will be delighted to assist you here.

I see that it is a regular keyboard, and it doesn't has an fn key on it.

Could you please explain the issue in detail, to assist you with relevant steps.

Keep me posted. 🙂

Hi Barachiel,

I have an external HP External Keybaord- Model KU-1156  and yes it has the FN key.

I need to disable the FN key on the external Keyboard so that I can use the normal short cut keys.

For example, if I want to put the Volume up   I need to click on FN key + F11

I would like just to use the shortcuts without using the FN key.

I have made the changes on my HP EliteBook 840 G2 from BIOS and it works fine on the Internal keyboard except on the external keyboard thats connected via USB.

I have tried the following:

FN + ESC

FN +Shift

FN + Scroll Lock

I have made the changes on the Bios menu  but only works for internal keyboard, not external.

Is there is setting for the External keyboard to disable the FN key?

I have an HP External Keybaord- Model KU-1156   that connected via USB to my HP EliteBook 840 G2.

Is there a registery Key I can delete or a Hot Key software to install?

Thank you in advance.

Thanks for the response.

I went through the specifications of the keyboard.

The settings can't be changed for an external keyboard, Though it can be customized with the internal keyboard.

If you hit the letter key on the keyboard, but the system show number, that 's because fn key locked, try the solutions bellow to unlock function key. Solutions: Hit FN, F12 and Number Lock key at the same time. Hold down Fn key and tap F11.
