Microsoft Windows 11

My secondhand HP keyboard model KU-0316 has a bug. When I hit the spacebar, the cursor inserts a space then jumps backwards deleting the space. Words end up running together  eg  WhenIhit thespace bar.  Is this a virus? 😞  I hope not.  Can it be fixed? I tried to find a keyboard installer/driver in the apps list so that I could uninstall it, but couldn't find one.  Can anyone help me please? Thank you.

Hi @helpmehewie,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're describing with your keyboard doesn't sound like a virus. It seems more likely to be a hardware or software problem with the keyboard itself. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially fix the issue.

Check for Physical Damage: Examine the spacebar and the area around it for any physical damage. Sometimes, debris or damage can cause erratic behavior.

Test with Another Keyboard: If possible, try using a different keyboard to see if the issue persists. This will help determine if the problem is specific to your HP KU-0316 keyboard or if it's a broader system issue.

Update or Reinstall Keyboard Drivers: Although you mentioned not finding a keyboard installer/driver in the apps list, you can check the device manager in your operating system. Here's how you can do it on Windows:

  • Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager."
  • Locate the "Keyboards" section, expand it, and right-click on your keyboard device.
  • Choose "Update driver" and follow the on-screen instructions. You can also try uninstalling the driver and then restarting your computer to let it reinstall automatically.

Check for Software Conflicts: Sometimes, other software or drivers may conflict with your keyboard. Ensure that your operating system and all drivers are up to date. Consider uninstalling recently installed software to see if the problem persists.

Try the Keyboard on Another Computer: If possible, try connecting your keyboard to another computer to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the keyboard itself.

Reset Keyboard Settings: On Windows, you can try resetting the keyboard settings to default:

  • Go to "Settings" > "Ease of Access" > "Keyboard."
  • Toggle off "Use Filter Keys" and "Use Toggle Keys" if they are enabled.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
