Hi there. I'm new to SSD and not an expert in motherboards. (links below)
it looks like this PC has SSD slot. I have 2 questions:
1. Is it a working slot? Can it be used for SSD?
2. Which SSD version / gen should I get? I don't want to overpay for something I won't be able to take advantage of
- Two PCI Express slots (1 x PCIe x16 and 1 x PCIe x1)
- One M.2 socket 1, Key A
- One M.2 socket 3, Key M, (2280/2242)

Current setup hits HDD a lot during wake up, with HDD usage at 100% (I have 32gb ram). It may be HP preinstalled crap slowing things down (win10) , but my other HP All-in-One 27-dp0053w with preinstalled software (win11) 512gb ssd/8gb is much faster, even though it's processor is slower (according to online benchmarks tests) ( Intel® Core™ i3-10100 vs AMD Ryzen™ 5 4500U ).
So I figured, if I have windows and maybe software installs on SSD and use HDD for storage only, it'll perform much better and 512gb or even 256gb would be more than enough since I don't have much stuff installed anyway.
Not sure if Win 11 runs much faster than Win10, but I have no problems switching to it if it performs better.
Thanks.

This one is for an SSD. It is fast extra storage you can use in addition to your installed HDD.
You can install up to a 4 TB M.2 PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD. It will whatever your desire and budget can take.

Will my PC take advantage of PCIe 5.0? My pc has BakerMS with 10th gen intel.
Crucial has Gen3, 4 and 5 listed, but unless I'll see PCIe 5.0 speeds I see no reason to overpay for the speed I won't get.
Sorry, I'm totally clueless when it comes to these things. I have not been upgrading computers in almost 2 decades 🙂
Thanks!

Your motherboard won't take advantage of 5.0 because of the chipset, but PCIe 5.0 is a downwardly compatible specification, so it will work.
The Gen3 and Gen4 versions are probably less expensive.
