HP Desktop PC M01-F1000a (2W898AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I currently have an HP M01-F1224 with I believe an Erica 5 motherboard with an AM4 socket. I want to upgrade the CPU to something a bit faster but am having trouble verifying compatibility with my motherboard. The reason for staying with this prebuilt is that I have already added an upgraded PSU, added a 1660 Super and 16 GB of DDR4 RAM. Any help would be appreciated

The Erica 5 motherboard supports the following processors:

This objectively isn't correct.  The LGA 1200 is an Intel only socket. The Ryzen 5 4600 G fits into a B-550A socket

Those specs are from HP.

The list of supported processors is correct.

The best processor you can install is the AMD Ryzen 7 4700G - Socket: AM4

Here is the source of my information:  scroll down the page.

HP apparently made a typo on the socket type.

What makes these 3 CPUs compatible and not other AM4 CPU's that are compatible with the B550-A socket and have 65W of TDP. For instance the Ryzen 7 5700X, Ryzen 7 5700G, Ryzen 7 3700X and Ryzen 7 5700?

Would it have something to do with this?

"Unfortunately this is a really hard call. The 4x00G Zen2 CPUs and the B550 chipset came out before the 5000 Zen3 CPUs by 6 months or so. It is possible HP never updated the BIOS to support 5000's."

"A big part of the problem is those 4x00G CPUs are almost exclusively OEM parts. They may or may not have tweaked the BIOS so it only accepts those models.

It is a B550 chipset board though, so I would be surprised if a 5600 or 5600X did not work. Either of those should be fine."
