I have the a HP MD1000-H External Drive, which I know if an EOL/EOS product.
The "USB to SATA Bridge Board" is defective, the external drive is not detected on two different laptops.
I removed the Western Digital 'WD10EADS' 1TB drive from the external drive case and connected the hard drive to my laptop with a USB-to-SATA adapter.
My laptop finds the drive under Windows Disk Management, but it Disk Management does not detect a partition on the drive. I Googled the issue and found that the USB to SATA Bridge Board uses hardware encription for all transfers to/from the drive.
My question is regarding the hardware encription.
Is the hardware encription between all the USB to SATA Bridge Boards in the MD1000-H External Drives the same?
If I purchase a used MD1000-H External Drive and install my Western Digital 'WD10EADS' 1TB drive to the used MD1000-H, will my laptop be able to read the partition / files?
Thanks,
John

Honestly, I would not bother with a questionable used device.
A simpler way to do it is to use a USB to SATA adapter. I paid @ $12 for my new Sabrent USB to SATA adapter.
As long as your SATA HDD is not corrupt, you should be able to read files from it.
The 2.5" SATA SSD in the image is a truly old SSD. OCZ no longer even exists as a company.
I keep one around for whenever I want to clone disks or read data from an old disk.

Hi Erico,
Thanks for your reply and suggestion!
Unfortunately, I did already tried connecting the WD SATA HD to a USB to SATA adapter.
As I mentioned, Windows detected the HD but could not read any files from the drive.
This is because the UBB to SATA bridge in the HP MD1000-H uses hardware encription.
The good news here is that I did purchase a used HP MD1000-H and when I installed my WD SATA HD in the enclosure, Windows was able to read and access the files!
