HP e273 27
macOS 10.15 Catalina

SOLVED! See below...."I recently bought an HP e273 27 - use it with an iMac - MacOSCatalina 10.15.7 - and Mini Display Port to HDMI;  it has been giving me reliability issues since setup. The display turns off at will and shows "Input Signal Inactive" "Display going to Sleep" with each attempt to get it going again. Will simply not restart as expected. Troubleshooting time, power and connection cables doesn't work and the screen is inaccessible for sometimes 12 or more hours, before more cable fiddling might, with luck, activate the display again. Asking the community re similar problems with this HP monitor/Mac combination? I have searched this issue and found conversations describing the same problem. If there was an upload button here I'd post those quotes as screenshots. I need this monitor to work - rather not have the inconvenience of having to return it and sort out another.

Any advice would be appreciated."

I'll begin with this description of the issues I've had for the past 2 months...

"From the start the monitor has never gone on and stayed on for longer than a few hours, sometimes minutes, before becoming inaccessible. I tried other compatible cables that came packed with the monitor with the same result. Then I used a new Belkin Mini Display to HDMI cable with no change. It would be off for 24 hours then connection becomes active with "HDMI active" message, only to fail again. All my computer restarts, resets and all other trouble shooting has been of no use. The monitor displays "HDMI inactive" "Input signal not found" "Check video cable and video source" "Monitor going to sleep" etc....

Then we tried a converter and it seems we have resolved the problem.

Right now I'm happy to say the display is Active. Converter is...
'DIGITECH WQ-7427 Mini Display Port to Display Port/HDMI/DVI Converter for video output from Mac or laptop to HDTV'
Display hasn't given a moment's trouble since connection.
