Oh thanks a lot ! I tried the same thing one month ago and got discouraged they deleted my post. Thanks a lot to have done this for me ! =D

There we go :

Hello there.

I have some questions. I have a HP OMEN X 900-080nz. I'm really, really happy about this machine and never had any problem with it. Sadly some games are beginning to ask your GPU to be an RTX to work on your device like Indiana Jones and the future Final Fantasy VII : Rebirth. I have 2 GTX 1080 inside of the computer (SLI) and I play nearly all games in 1440P in a kinda decent way. I don't really know what to do with the machine. (I don't plan to go to 4k screen, 1440 is a really sweet spot for me)

Simply upgrade to an RTX4070 Super Ti ? or a 4080 ? or just simply go for a 3080 or something like that ?

My model have a 32 giga of ram, a 1300 Watts power supply and a Munich-S motherboard Form factor: uATX: 24x24 cm (9.4x9.4 in) Chipset: Z170 Memory sockets: 4 x DDR4 Processor socket: LGA 1151 Expansion Slots: Two PCI-E (GEN 3) x16 socket One M.2 socket 1, key A One M.2 socket 3, key M. It has a Intel I7 7600K CPU (CPU speed: 4.0 GHz).

I don't know wich size of GPU I can put in the case and in this motherboard. Have I to change the Mobo if I want to put an rtx 4070 or 4080 ? I saw some dual fan GPU that can maybe go inside.  But it seems the tiny 4080 are hard to find. 😕 I know the GTX 1080 founder edition size is 267 mm x 112 mm x 40 mm. Don't really know if we can put something bigger inside of it, but It has place for two GTX 1080 ahah.

If I simply change the graphic card, I know there will be bottleneck because of the CPU and maybe the motherboard, but I will be able to activate DLSS stuff and things like that, no ? I'm not the gamer who will focus to have 120 FPS games. I try to have something stable between 60 and 30 (i'm more into solo games, just sometimes some fighting games for fun on the computer).

If I have to change the motherboard wich one is the best to go inside this case ?

If you have some ideas who could help me. (i'm really not a pro on upgrading pc parts).

The ideal thing for me would be to simply change the GPU (RTX 4070, or 4070 Super or 4070 Super TI), but maybe I'll have to go for more than that, but kinda makes me sad, everything works fine.

Hope I gived enough info's.

I think it's all and one more time thanks a lot ! =D

Thanks a lot for the help. 🙂

@Myoubouh,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Glad to assist you.

Yea, your HP OMEN X 900-080nz as fitted with a Munich-S motherboard (SSID: 81B6) is a very unique gaming PC!

It has a most appealing "Retro" look to it, and I understand completely why you don't want to part from it!

So, let's see how we can further upgrade one of -if not the most extraordinary Gaming Tower HP ever produced.

For max RAM performance, I would upgrade your RAM with a matching 2x16GB dual rank (2Rx8) RAM kit, such as this Amazon-Germany purchase example: https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Timetec-2400MHz-PC4-19200-Unbuffered-Non-ECC/dp/B072R2X7CQ/ref=sr_1_4?cri.... To be installed in DIMM#1 and DIMM#3.

We should be able to increase your RAM speed from 2133 MHz to 2400 MHz.

Second, upgrade to an i7-7700K -every processor upgrade helps, especially when you want to upgrade your graphics card as well.

Lastly, I would strongly recommend upgrading to a smaller-sized (dual fan) RTX 4070 Super such as this model: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/asus-dual-rtx-4070-super-evo-oc.b11625.

I don't think you are going to get much more bang for your buck with a higher-end graphics card, due to processor bottlenecking.

Make sure that you use your M.2 NVMe SSD slot as your primary (boot) drive, and I would strongly recommend getting one of the fastest running drives such as this Amazon-Germany affordably priced 1TB Crucial P3 Plushttps://www.amazon.de/-/en/Crucial-Internal-Compatible-Laptop-Desktop/dp/B0BYWB6237/ref=sr_1_4?crid=....  Yes, your M.2 NVMe SSD Gen3 slot will run this M.2 drive at Gen3 I/O speeds, but your system will squeeze every bit of performance out of it.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

Oh thanks a lot for all that informations and taking your time to answer ! I know this rig is amazing and it's shape it's so cool !

I fortgott to tell that I've added a 870 EVO Samsung SSD to it the last year. I install/boot games on it these days. The original SSD is only for windows, i've put nothing on it to keep performances great.

For the i7 7700K I already tought about it, but didn't knew if it was really going to help the PC, but it seems yes. It should just be difficult to find it in my country. 😕

When it released I knew there was already the 2400 MHZ rams, I even tought it was the only "flaw" of the machine at that time.

I never uninstalled a SLI GPU, is not too hard to do ?

For the RTX 4070 Super seems a great model. You know if this one fits in the PC without any problems ? I see it  has 12GB memory, the Super TI has 16GB rams, it's not better if there is a model that fits in the PC if one day I change the motherboard completly ? (and the 16 gb rams will not help the pc a bit more ?) (it will be easier to change parts little by little xD). My biggest fear is to buy a GPU that will not fit in this case that it's a bit unusual. ^^' Will I be able to use all the recent techs with my old motherboard ? But yes the 4070 Super should be a big upgrade compared to GTX 1080.

It's a shame the SLI is no more used, i'm sure I could run games like Monster Hunter Wilds correctly if it was the case.

I'm playing nearly everything on this PC. Even games like Tekken works on it perfectly fine. I'm seeing it's weaknesses only with the games I talked about and Monster Hunter Wilds that seems poorly optimized (for the moment) sadly.

P.S : If one day I want to change everything on it except the power supply who is still a monster today. Wich motherboard would you put in it that can fit ?

@Myoubouh,

You're welcome!

The smaller-sized RTX 4070 Super has a length of 227 mm (22.7cm), which should fit in your case.  This card is likely not (much) larger lengthwise than your GTX 1080.

Yes, every upgrade will help to extend the life of your iconic gaming desktop.

You should be able to purchase an i7-7700K relatively cheap, such as this eBay-Germany purchase option: https://www.ebay.de/itm/256836486969?_skw=i7-7700k&itmmeta=01JN9S8GZVX8J5WXM2Y36H9PZ9&hash=item3bcca....

Shop around!

I would go with the 2x16GB RAM config, as it provides the best RAM performance for your system.

Removing your current graphics card is easy: assuming you go with the RTX 4070 Super, first download the latest Nvidia Game Ready Driver from here: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/drivers/results/241091/, power down your PC, remove your old card, install your new card, power up, and install the driver you just downloaded. Easy peasy!

Not sure which more modern gaming motherboard would fit.  You'll have to take a careful look how your current motherboard compares size-wise, config-wise and mounting-wise would be a fit inside your OMEN X 900 case.

Thanks a lot again for all the info's. =D

The RTX Super 4070 can fit then. Great to know ! This model exists in white if i'm not wrong ? (saw somewhere it was cheaper in my country than the original model)

4070 Super TI any model can fit ? Can we consider it if one fit, or it's totally useless ? I suppose no 4080 fit in it and should be useless.

I already removed graphic cards, but never a SLI system. Will check this on internet.

Thanks a lot for your help one more time. 😉

@Myoubouh,

There is exactly one RTX 4070 Ti model that will fit in your rig, and that is the smaller-sized MSI RTX 4070 Ti Ventus 2X OC as seen here: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/msi-rtx-4070-ti-ventus-2x-oc.b11806.

Like I mentioned in my previous post, going beyond the RTX 4070 Super/Ti -even if it was possible, would not add more graphics performance to your system.

Thanks for the information ! You know if it is a great GPU this one ?

If I buy it it will for a future change of the motherboard of the PC. Even if for the moment I don't feel nothing more than I will feel with a RTX 4070 Super it will not be a problem on the machine (I mean it will not create instability in the system ?)

Thanks a lot for everything ! =D

Kind regards.

@Myoubouh,

If with "this one" you mean the MSI RTX 4070 Ti Ventus 2X OC, yes, this is a very nice card from a great brand.

Whatever you do -especially if you buy a used graphics card, is to make sure it works.

None of the cards I recommended/referenced will cause system instability.

I also would go ahead with the other upgrades (CPU, RAM, even your primary drive) as I mentioned/recommended.

Thanks a lot for all that informations ! =D

I'll keep you update here when I'll upgrade the machine. It will take some time to find some good offers to gather all. Hope you'll be there when it happen. 😄

Kind regards and thanks for helping people here, it's greatly appreciated. 😉

Quite sad HP didn't released a "new" Omen X that followed the design of this beautifull machine.
