Microsoft Windows 11

I am helping my coworker with his HP Obelisk Desktop 875-0024, Part number 4NM66AA.  I can guess from the information on the site the Motherboard model is this one:  L23867-601 and the parent part number is 5QH30AA.  I believe the name is EDORAS.

Currently it has an SSD from Toshiba which is a Ben3x2 - the part number is L22028-001.  It is a M.2 2280 256 GB.  I am trying to get the specification for the motherboard to see what is the fastest M.2 SSD NVME which can be purchased which will be useful.  No need to get a super-fast SSD if the board does not have the lanes for it.

I have searched but can't find it, can anyone point me where to look please?

I already looked in Crucial.com and it does show SSDs which as are as fast as 13,800 m/s but I am sure there is no need to spend that on a board which may not support it being at least 3 years old.

The Edoras motherboard has an Intel H370 chipset.

Below are the Intel specs for the H370 chipset:

Intel® H370 Chipset

The PC's M.2 slot is PCIe Gen 3.0.

While a Gen 4 SSD will work, it will not run at its maximum advertised read/write speeds from the Gen 3 slot.

This table shows the maximum transfer speeds each PCIe generation can provide:

Thank you, sir, I did look up the H370 chipset before posting but wasn't sure if HP was doing anything to the board.  In my experience with HP for the last 25 years is they always used to limit the boards in some ways.

This is exactly what I was looking for and your response includes my concern.  My coworker wanted the fastest SSD but I told him it would be a waste of money since the board would not allow more than certain speed based on the available pci lanes and their speed.

Thank you so much for your help.

You're very welcome.

Check prices because some Gen 4 SSD's actually cost less nowadays than the Gen 3 drives.

If you can still get the Crucial P3 Gen 3.0 for less than a Gen 4.0 SSD, that would be the best way to go, IMHO.
