I’ve had my PC for a few years now and I’m looking to upgrade the cooling. I have no experience with this so I was looking for some guidelines on how to know what liquid cooling systems would be compatible

Need more info:  What is heating up an when?

CPU?  disable hyperthreading or reduce the turbo boost using windows power management

GPU?  Use afterburner to control fans and set a curve so the fans kicks in quickly and/opr set a power limit.

Entire case?  Check for clogged filters, if any, blow dust out of fans.  Replace or add additional fans.

Doing any type of "mining" :  consider using TThrottle

If your system has gtx1080 TI it will run hot and needs lots of air.  I replaced a three fan eVga 1070 cooler with an eVga hybrid cooler and solved both a cooling and a noise problem.   Not sure if you case has a place for a radiator and I suspect the price of coolers has skyrocketed just like the price of the NVidia cards.
